Festive Flavours Menu is Here!

You might not immediately associate ice cream with Winter but at Glenburn, we think ice cream is perfect any time of year!  This year’s Festive Flavours Sundae Collection features a taste of the holidays in the form of 9 delightful treats.

Merry Cranberry – cranberry orange compote with cranberry pistachio biscotti crumble.

Jack Frost Brownie – our popular Jack Frost sundae twisted into a brownie sundae with the addition of a Last Crumb Bakery Browned Butter Brownie. Candy cane ice cream and hot fudge – you will melt!

Boston Cream – a timeless American dessert in ice cream form.

Spiced Gingerbread – featuring local pear compote and house-made gingerbread cake.

Mandarin Holiday – the familiar combo of chocolate orange – no need to whack and unwrap this goodie though!

Yule Nog – eggnog ice cream with rum raisins and gingerbread crumble.

Chocolate Pecan Pie – our most popular Festive Flavour from 2014. Classic dessert re-imagined as a sundae.

Down the Chimney – Santa needs a little something to keep going during his long night of deliveries.  Coffee ice cream & chocolate should do the trick!

Holiday Sampler – can’t choose just one?  The Sampler has you covered!

In addition to sundaes, we’ve got a host of other seasonal treats.  Try a Peppermint Malt or a “Flake” shake to get you in the holiday spirit.  We’ve got a rotating selection of baking too – you never know what will show up but it’s guaranteed to be yummy.

Hot Hot Summer!

How are you keeping cool in this hot weather?  It’s tough to find anything else that provides a cool-off better than ice cream and as you can guess, the shop has been busy, busy, busy on these hot days and sweltering nights.

After dinner is the busiest time for ice cream shops located in neighbourhoods.  If you’re hoping to come by and enjoy a sit down experience at the bar or tables, try the afternoon – or even at dinner time when most folks are sitting down to a meal – go figure!  Eat dessert first and you’ll always have room!

We’re looking forward to more summer fun in August but in case you’re wondering we’ll be closed on BC Day – as Monday we are usually closed. Later in August, we’ll be celebrating fair time with some carnival-themed treats and other surprises in the shop.

Over the Rainbow Sundae

Until we see you again, stay cool and take care!

April Happenings

April is shaping up to be a busy month at Glenburn.  We’ve already started training new staff in preparation for the coming summer season and are assembling a great team.

crave-onlineWe are participating in Crave again this year – April 21, 22, 23.  During Crave this year we’re offering the opportunity for you to make your own banana split!  Think of the possibilities – all chocolate ice cream with hot fudge and marshmallow topped with peanuts and pretzels or whatever you decide! Stay tuned for our downloadable banana split order form and be sure to mark your calendar for Crave (our neighbours at Brokenrice are a great choice too!)

Don’t forget to use #Crave2015 in your tweets and Instagram posts to automatically be entered to win a $100 gift certificate to the Heights restaurant of your choice!

Our Feature Sundae Sauce this month is White Chocolate.  We like it on chocolate ice cream or paired with a fruit sauce in a regular size sundae.  You might like to try it on your DIY Banana Split!

Watch our weekly Sundae Special board for a new sundae flavour combo and check out our lineup of ice creams – we try to bring in something new on a regular basis.  This past week we brought in our first tub of Bubblegum ice cream – summer is on its way!

Hot Chocolate Festival 2015

Hot Chocolate Festival

We’re excited to be among 24 cafés, dessert and pastry shops participating in the Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival.  The festival runs from January 17 to February 14th and we’re offering 2 flavours over the course of the festival.

We’re headed into the final week for our “Make Mine a Malt” flavour.  This flavour is made with Callebaut Milk Chocolate, malted milk and topped with whipped cream and a malt ball.  Each hot chocolate in the festival is served along with a small bite – with this one we chose to make a snack mix we’re calling “Sticks and Stones”: pecans, popcorn and pretzels with a caramel coating.

Starting January 31, you can try our “I Went All Hot and Cold” flavour which is a dark chocolate hot chocolate using Callebaut chocolate and Avalon Dairy whole milk.  This hot chocolate will be paired with Birchwood Dairy vanilla ice cream and a mini waffle cone.  Float it in the hot chocolate or eat it separately if you’d like!

The best thing about the Hot Chocolate Festival (yes, even better than 57 hot chocolate flavours) is that 5% of the gross sales from every hot chocolate benefits East Van Roasters and their training and employment program for women in the DTES.

If you’re starting your hot chocolate adventure in Burnaby, don’t forget to check out the delicious offerings at Chez Christophe our Heights neighbour.

Walking tour maps are available to download and print on the CityFood website.  Or pick one up at a participating merchant – we’ve got a good supply at the counter.
